SUMMARY:The Hackensaw Boys w/ Black Muddy River band
DESCRIPTION:With feet firmly planted in the old-time song tradition\, hands soiled by the dirt of rock n' roll and eyes fixed steadily on the future of real country music\, the Hackensaw Boys are among the most exciting groups charting new territory in today's diverse Americana music scene.\n\nHow does it work?\n\nEverybody sings a bit of lead\, everybody sings a bit of harmony and most members know when to shut up. Instrumentation includes banjo\, guitar\, mandolin\, fiddle\, harmonica\, upright bass\, charismo (a home-made tin can contraption) and the occasional trap kit.\n\nWhere do they come from?\n\nIn the beginning they all lived in Charlottesville\, VA\, but now the members are spread throughout Virginia\, Tennessee\, North Carolina\, and Louisiana. For more than a decade\, however\, they've come together to tour the United States\, Europe and the U.K. and to record several critically acclaimed albums.\n\n\n\nBlack Muddy River Band is a three-member acoustic group from the Washington DC area that captures the music and spirit of the Grateful Dead. Two- and three-part harmonies overlay acoustic guitars\, bass and mandolin (in ever-changing combinations). Fans of the Dead's early 1970s acoustic albums will find these gems both captured and interpreted in fresh new ways. The group also plays acoustic versions of songs that the Dead only played "plugged in\," including extended jams where the three instruments interweave to capture the Dead's spare intricacy.\n\n18 and up to enter. VALID ID required.
