Description
FIRSTfriday Artist Barb Boatman is a textile artist very different from others. She is an artist who focuses on using recycled materials. Often her pieces start with the complex 'fabric' she makes by hand weaving recycled aluminum soda cans with torn strips of fabric which she then machine quilts. This recycled fabric is frequently framed as an abstract design, but sometimes Barb turns the fabric into whimsical 3-D objects like little purses or tiny houses. She loves to embellish her creations with vintage buttons, salvaged lace, old quilt pieces, left over zippers and even mesh onion bags. One of her most unique concepts involves using her scrap sewing threads to create machine quilted lace that she then emblishes with small bits of aluminum, hand beading and those colorful onion bags.
Also on hand FIRSTfriday, meet our resident artists and enjoy the newest art & artisan offerings along with tasty snacks. Free, open to the public.
