Mardi Gras & Louisiana Posters Auction
Thursday February 26th 11:00AM
We are pleased to present a distinctive collection of vintage 1980s screen-printed posters celebrating Mardi Gras, New Orleans, Louisiana, and the region’s legendary festival culture. This vibrant offering spans the golden era of hand-crafted poster art — a decade when local artists and print studios captured the color, pageantry, rhythms, and joie de vivre of Louisiana’s carnivals, parades, and community celebrations.
These works reflect the bold graphic design and festive spirit of the time, often incorporating iconic Mardi Gras imagery such as masked revelers, jazzy brass bands, fleur-de-lis motifs, and the raucous energy of Bourbon Street and other storied locales. Screen printing — prized for its rich layers of saturated color and tactile quality — gives each poster an enduring visual impact that makes these pieces compelling for collectors of regional Americana, festival memorabilia, and graphic art of the late twentieth century.
This collection is being auctioned on behalf of Herndon-Reston FISH, a long-standing local nonprofit dedicated to providing Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help to neighbors in financial crisis. Founded as a nonsectarian 501(c)(3) organization, FISH offers short-term emergency assistance for essentials such as rent, utilities, medical prescriptions, and other urgent needs to help families stabilize and avoid more severe consequences like eviction or loss of critical services through a volunteer-driven network serving Herndon and Reston residents.
