Workshop at Progressive Education Summit
The Learning Quest and Acton Academy Falls Church teamed up to design and give a workshop at the 15th Annual Progressive Education Summit, organized by the City Neighbors Foundation in Baltimore on January 24.
The Workshop "When Nothing Sticks: Keep Calm and Pivot" provided educators with innovative strategies to engage learners.
Too often, educators face moments when nothing seems to work—students are disengaged, and learning doesn’t “stick.” This workshop offered a way forward: pivoting toward learner-driven practices that spark curiosity and tap into student passions. Drawing on lessons from Acton Academy’s Falls Church Spanish Immersion Program and The Learning Quest, we shared adaptable principles that apply to any classroom—promoting student interests, allowing learners to move at their own pace, and creating space for authentic exploration. Participants were provided with practical strategies to reframe challenges as opportunities for innovation and to build classrooms where learning is meaningful, personal, and lasting.
